Cold and rainy weather doesn’t have to mean pants. For me, it just mean a slightly longer dress. I got this dress at the Caribbean Days festival at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver a few weeks ago. I love blue and I love leopard print. They also had green, pink, and purple versions of this dress, but blue was the best. My denim jacket is from Old Navy. My bracelet is from Suzy Shier and my ring is from the Blim Market festival downtown. My necklace is from Payless and my earrings are from Claire’s. Maybe I will just continue to wear blue until my nail polish comes off.
I got this colourful dress at the Fiji Day festival at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby a few weeks ago. I wore it to the Vancouver Pride Parade on Sunday because it’s so bright and colourful. My matching blue cardigan is from Ross Dress For Less in the States. My necklace is from UBC and my earrings are from Claire’s. My bracelet is from Sears and my ring is from the Blim Market festival downtown. I finally washed my hair this weekend and then straightened it myself. I will never be able to get it back to salon quality, but at least it still looks decent. I got a shellac manicure and pedicure at Beauty Lounge in Richmond yesterday with a Groupon I bought. This bright royal blue is my favourite colour. Hopefully it will last for a while.
I got this dress at H&M. I may or may not have bought it specifically for Canada Day because it’s red and white. I wore it on the first day of the month, so why not wear it again on the last day of the month? I got my black sweater from Suzy Shier. My necklace is from Fan Expo and my earrings are from Claire’s. My bracelet is from Sears and my ring is from UBC. I tried touching up my nails with glitter polish but they’re still pretty chipped. I restraightened my hair again, but it keeps unintentionally flipping out at the bottom.
I’m wearing makeup today because it’s my birthday. Or at least I was. Let me tell you how I failed today. I bought this new fiber lash mascara on Car Free Day and decided to try it out this morning. But I screwed that up and ended up having a huge amount of fibers just getting in my eyes. All morning it was irritating me and then I looked in the mirror and noticed my eye was red. It was early afternoon and I had no makeup remover with me, so I had to attempt to remove all my eye makeup with a paper towel and water. And of course I was wearing a lot of it. I’m pretty sure there are still some fibers stuck in my eyes and now there are darker circles under my eyes and it probably looks like I’ve been crying. So my review of fiber lash mascara, is don’t do it, especially if you’re prone to screwing things up. At least with my eye being red, it matches my dress?
I had some wardrobe malfunctions this morning right before I left the house. It’s a good thing it didn’t happen after I’d already left. But I didn’t have time to change my outfit. Nor did I want to. I got this dress from a vendor at the Caribbean Days Festival at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver on the weekend. The guy actually had a small fitting room, so I didn’t have to try on dresses over my clothes like I normally do at street festivals. This was one of the three dresses I bought, and I think the nicest of them. I really like the blues and the greens and the different lengths at the bottom of the dress.
But this morning, the left strap broke completely off. I have no idea how it tore in two places, but somehow it did. All I had at my disposal was a large safety pin and a small bobby pin. I somehow managed to reattach the strap and secure it in place with these two items. I’m resourceful, like Macgyver. I obviously did a bad job of it, because you can still see the bobby pin and the safety pin. But I mean it’s just for now, so that I could wear the dress today. Eventually I will have to attempt to sew the strap back on. Or get someone else with better sewing skills to do it for me.
For now, you can’t tell anything is wrong because I’ve covered it with my green Jacob cardigan. I got one of my bracelets at Sears and the other one at Suzy Shier. My green ring is from Greek Day on Broadway and my blue ring is from the Blim Market Festival on Granville. My necklace is from Payless and my earrings are from Greek Day. My hair is definitely becoming less and less straight, but I’d like to think it still looks good. I tried to touch up my nails again so that they can look good while matching my outfit. I’m wearing makeup because it’s my birthday week and I can.
My pineapple dress is from H&M and my grey sweater is from Jacob. My necklace is from UBC and my bracelet is from Dollarama. My ring is from Boca Raton Designs at Greek Day and my #SELFIE iPhone case is from Aldo. I got these earrings at Claire’s. They have cats on them. Because why not? I’m not a cat lady. I’ve never even owned a pet. But if I were to ever own one in the future, it would most likely be a cat. I haven’t washed my hair since I got it cut on Saturday. And I don’t plan on doing so anytime soon. I’m still trying to figure out the longest amount of time I can possibly go without washing it. I also painted my nails. Badly. They’ll most likely be chipped by tomorrow. But my hair looks good, so nothing else matters, right?
I got this dress at Car Free Day on Commercial Drive a couple weeks ago. It’s a bit longer than my other dresses and stops right at my knees. Which is kind of weird, because it feels like it should be right above or right below. Like either cover my knees or don’t. It’s probably meant to be a full length dress on a short girl. I tried it on over my own dress at at Car Free Day. There was a mirror, but it was kind of low down, so I crouched down on the street to see how it looked. I paired it with my favourite blue sweater from Forever 21. My necklace is from Payless and my earrings are from a vendor at Greek Day. I wish they’d had the earrings in the same blue as my necklace. They are a bit heavy, but I don’t care because I love them. They were similar enough to my necklace that I thought they would go together. I’m constantly wearing mismatched sets, and pairing gold jewellery with silver jewellery. But I like it that way. My blue bracelet is from Sears and my green ring is from Boca Raton Designs at Greek Day. I wanted a blue one, but the blue ring they had was even smaller than this and wouldn’t have even fit on my finger, let alone been too tight. The little bit of what’s left of my chipped nail polish matches my outfit. I’m wearing another pair of new shoes today as well, but again, you can’t see them.
I thought I would wear something red in my outfit today since tomorrow is Canada Day. I don’t know if you can tell but if you look closely you can see that my earrings are little Canada flags. I found them at Claire’s and thought they were cute. My red top is from Suzy Shier from several years ago. I just bought this skirt at Old Navy over the weekend. I think it may actually be the only skirt I have that fits me right now. Wearing dresses is so much easier. Less pieces of clothing to put together. My outfit doesn’t even really match right now but oh well. I was trying to find a sweater this morning and my mom looked outside and was like “Does it look like you need a sweater?”. But I explained that I like to wear one in the office because the temperature is good inside the building. I just grabbed this black Bryan’s cardigan before I left the house.
I unfortunately did not get a matching Canada flag necklace to go with my earrings, so I wore this key and rose Claire’s necklace instead. My bracelet is from Dollarama and my purple ring is from Boca Raton Designs at Greek Day. Yes, I’m still wearing it even though it’s too tight. I tried contacting the vendor, because I have his business card but I haven’t received a response. I don’t expect him to take it back, but it would be nice if he could let me exchange the second ring I bought, which seems to be even tighter than this one. Also I got my eyebrows done last week if anyone cares. Can you even tell or should I not have bothered?
I’m all pretty in pink today. Is it too much? Well if it is, I don’t care. I got this dress at Car Free Day on Denman Street a couple weekends ago. They had it in other colours, but the pink one was the most vibrant and just felt right for summer. The purple tank top I’m wearing under it is from Smart Set. My pink sweater is from the Plenty warehouse sale at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Easter weekend. I know it’s hot, but when I’m in the office, the temperature is more regulated so I don’t really notice the heat or humidity until I go outside. Maybe I should just leave a sweater in my office, since I don’t really need one when I’m outside before or after work.
I’ve been buying a lot of fancy jewellery lately. I got this necklace at Greek Day on Broadway yesterday. I have a similar one in blue that I got from Payless and I got complimented on it, so I thought I’d buy another necklace in that style. I bought a pair of matching earrings as well, but they are kind of heavy so I didn’t wear them. I knew they were heavy when I bought them, but I really wanted a matching set. Maybe next time, I will just wear them briefly for photos and then take them off. Instead, I decided to wear my pink flip flop earrings which are more lightweight. I got my shiny bracelet from Car Free Day on Main Street a couple weekends ago. I somehow didn’t have a pink or purple bracelet to pair with this outfit. We’ll have to change that soon.
I love this purple ring that I got at Greek Day yesterday. But it’s kind of tight. I didn’t realize until afterwards how tight it is. And I got a second ring in this size too. The guy selling them told me it would be okay because my fingers would be less swelled up in the morning when I put on the ring. But contrary to that, I felt like my fingers were actually more swelled up this morning and the ring felt even tighter. I tried on the ring on my left hand just to see the difference, and my ring finger on that hand is somehow fatter. I couldn’t even get the ring off, so I concluded that I must be married to myself now. I managed to remove it using some lotion. Is it possible to lose weight in your finger? Is that a thing? Maybe tight rings are like a corset for your finger? I don’t want to hurt myself though. But I feel like my finger fluctuates in terms of swelling throughout the day, because sometimes I feel like the ring maybe fits and other times I’m like nope, this is definitely way too tight. I wonder if the guy will let me exchange them. Except he doesn’t have a physical store and I don’t know what event he’ll be at next. What a fail. Maybe I’ll have to find someone who has a more slender finger than I do and bestow a lovely gift upon them. Or sell it because I paid good money for it. And also find someone who likes heavy earrings. Or just keep everything and suffer through the discomfort because beauty is pain.
Another blue dress from a street festival. I got this one at Italian Day on Commercial Drive a couple weekends ago, along with the green dress that I wore last week. The styles are similar, but different enough that I was fine with getting both. I really like this colour blue and the designs that are on this dress. It would’ve matched really well with the sweater I wore yesterday, but I didn’t want to wear the same sweater two days in a row if I could help it. Instead, I paired it with this brown cardigan that I got from Bryan’s at Lansdowne Centre, since there is also brown in the dress. My necklace is from Her Story Lockets and I got it at the PNE last year. I actually ran into the girl who runs that business during Car Free Day on Denman Street and she remembered me because I was such a loyal customer. My earrings are new, I got them at Car Free Day on Main Street on Sunday. My ring is from UBC and my bracelet is from Sears. And my nails are still looking good because I touched the up a little bit. I may end up wearing even more blue outfits this week, because it’s my favourite colour, but also because I want my clothes to match my nails. I guess purple would work too because they’re kind of purplish. Or you know, I’ll just wear a different colour entirely. Because really, who cares?
Its annoying how almost all of my dresses are too short to wear without leggings. This one is just long enough. You know how some places make pants in a long or tall size? Can they make dresses like that as well? I remember one time in high school, my friend let me borrow her short skirt, but on me it was more like a mini skirt. I remember saying that a long skirt for her would be a short skirt for me, a short skirt for her would be a mini skirt for me, and a mini skirt for her would basically be a belt for me.
I asked my mom if this dress was too short when I was leaving the house and she was like “Just be careful when you’re sitting down, especially on the bus.” I told her I probably wouldn’t get a seat anyway, so it would be fine. The worst thing about wearing a short dress is having your legs directly against the gross bus seats when you sit down. My friend told me to do the finger length test and put my arms by my side, and if the dress was past my fingers, then it was fine. Is that an actual thing that people do? Apparently they used to make employees do that when I worked at Jacob. I don’t remember though, I guess I mostly wore pants there.
I got this purple dress from Urban Behavior at Metrotown (It always bothers me to write “Behavior” without a “u” in it). I got the tank top underneath it from Jacob, when I worked at the Richmond Centre location before they went out of business. The dress is really thin and would possibly be a bit see-through without it. In which case, the length would no longer matter. I got the floral jacket from Suzy Shier at Capilano mall. My mom asked me if it was new. It’s not, but this is only the second time I’ve worn it. The necklace and bracelet are both from Claires, the ring is from UBC, and the music note earrings are from a booth outside the PNE Marketplace. My continually chipping nail polish matches my outfit again. I really like that colour. But apparently not enough to maintain a proper manicure.
