Free birthday slurpee at 7-Eleven

After having dinner at Pajo’s, I needed to make a stop at 7-Eleven to buy a bus pass for the month of August.  It’s kind of depressing having to spend $110 on your birthday, but that’s what happens when it’s on the very last day of the month.

I went in and asked the clerk for a two zone monthly bus pass for August.  He then informed me that they had sold out for the day.  I was confused.  How do they sell out of August bus passes before August even arrives?  Then he said they had some in a locked box that only the manager could open and that the manager wasn’t there.  He told me they would be available if I came back the following morning.  Except the following morning, it would be August, hence I would require the use of the bus pass to get there.  Fail.

Before I left, I told him that I’d read online that you get a free slurpee on the day of your birthday.  He thought I was talking about the free slurpee day on July 11th and said that it had already happened.  So I clarified and he said “Oh, it’s your birthday?”  I’m not sure if he completely understood me, but he said I could go get a slurpee.  Which I did.  I asked if he wanted to see ID but he said it was fine.  So I got a free white out monutain dew slurpee.

I’m not sure if I was supposed to get it or not, or if he just let me take it because of the lack of bus passes along with the lack of understanding me.  But I have read online that free birthday slurpees really are a thing.  I guess it just helps if they disappoint you in some way by not having the thing you originally came in for.  I didn’t really even want it that much, so I just had a bit and gave the rest to my brother.  Because I’m a nice person.

As for the bus pass, I went to a different 7-Eleven a couple blocks away, where they still had them in stock.  I probably could have tried to get another free slurpee from this location as well, but I didn’t want to be greedy.  One free birthday slurpee is plenty enough.

Free birthday meal at Pajo’s

On my birthday, I knew I wanted to get a free meal for dinner.  Some deals allow you to get your free meal one week before or one week after your birthday, while others only allow you to get it on the actual day.  It only made sense to go for one that would only be valid on the day of my birthday.  I had two choices.  Denny’s or Pajo’s.  I had gotten my free birthday meal at Denny’s last year, so I decided to opt for Pajo’s this time.  I wanted to go with my family, and I figured they’d be happier with fish and chips.  I suppose I could have attempted to do both, but I feel that would have been overkill.

My Pajo’s birthday coupon

In order to get your free birthday meal at Pajo’s, just go to their website and click on “Free Birthday Meal” under the heading “About”.  This will bring you to a form you need to fill out with your name, email address, and birthday.  Then you’ll receive a link to the coupon in your email.  Just print it out, fill it in with your name, and take it to Pajo’s with your picture ID on the day of your birthday.  It’s good for a small fish and chips and a drink, or a burger with fries and a drink.

Dinner at Pajo’s with my family

There are two Pajo’s locations in Richmond, one at Steveston on the wharf, and one at Garry Point Park.  We figured the wharf might be busier, so we went to Garry Point.  It was a nice day outside and we were able to find a picnic table to sit at.  I had my coupon printed and filled out and ready to go.  Halibut is more expensive than cod or salmon, so naturally I chose that option since it was free.  But I had a bit of salmon too that my family had left over.  Because I can always eat.  The portions at Pajo’s are pretty big.  You get a lot of fries in your basket.

My free birthday fish and chips

I don’t have fish and chips that often, so I’m glad I decided to go there.  There are two other Pajo’s locations at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody and Gates Park in Port Coquitlam.  I’m lucky that my birthday is in the summer, because their summer hours are 11am-8pm, whereas in the spring and fall they’re only open until 7pm, and only on certain days of the week.  This gave me ample time to get there and redeem my coupon after work.  Unfortunately, since they operate outdoors, Pajo’s is closed during the winter.  So you if you have a winter birthday, I guess you’re out of luck.  I wonder if Pajo’s offers any deal for those who miss out by being born at the wrong time.  Maybe it’s worth checking?  But this is just one of the reasons why summer birthdays rock.

Free birthday stuff

My birthday was over a month ago.  July 31st.  The same birthday as Harry Potter.  In case you might want to know that.  Anyway, this year, I decided to cash in on as many free birthday deals as I could find.  And I think I did pretty well with it.  But I’m hoping to do even better with it next year.  Because I can.  So why not?  Everyone loves free stuff.  And so I thought I would try and share the information with everyone so that you too can cash in on these great deals when your birthday comes around.

I posted on Facebook and Twitter about all the free birthday deals I got as I was getting them.  And people have been asking how I managed to get all those deals.  I’m pretty on top of stuff like that.  Some people ridicule me for it and think I’m just really cheap, while others are actually envious and want to follow suit.  This post is for those in the latter group.  But it could also be for those in the former as well.  Blogging about my free birthday deals is taking things a step even further, and if you enjoy ridiculing me, this will give you yet another reason to do so.  You’re welcome.

I remember when I told my aunt about the free birthday meals I got, she said “I could have just bought you a meal for your birthday.”  But that’s not the same thing.  I wanted it to be free not in the sense that I didn’t have to pay for it, but in the sense that no one had to pay for it.  That way you don’t feel like you owe anyone.  It’s just better that way.

I’m going to apologize now because I’ve been rambling on and still haven’t given you any of the information you need as to how to get free birthday stuff.  I’ve actually decided I’m going to break all the deals up into separate blog posts.  My original intent was to put them all in one, but that would take far too long for me to write and for you to read.  And no one wants that.  Halfway through you’d be like “Screw it, I’m just gonna go out and buy my own Red Robin burger.”  Plus this way, you’ll get to find out about a new deal everyday.  Or every other day.  Or however often I decide to post one, depending on how caught up I am with my blogging.

But for now, I’ll leave you with a list of places that offer free birthday deals that I was able to obtain this year.  The information as to how to get these deals will soon follow in the not too distant future.

Boulevard Casino

Sephora

Blenz

Pajo’s Fish and Chips

7-Eleven

Red Robin

Boston Pizza

Marble Slab

IHOP

For some reason I thought the list was longer.  But I think that’s it.  There are many more deals than the ones listed above, but those are the ones that I was able to use this year.  Here is a list of a few other places that offer free birthday deals but that I didn’t get the chance to use this year.

Starbucks

Denny’s

Milestones

Vera’s Burger Shack

Dairy Queen

Orange Julius

Booster Juice

Baskin Robbins

The Boathouse

The Keg

And this list goes on and on.  Also note, the deals I’ve mentioned are all for Vancouver, BC.  If you live elsewhere, you’ll have to do your own research.  Or if you’re too lazy, tell me where you live and I’ll research it for you.  Because everyone deserves free stuff on their birthday.
