Eighty-ninth day of work selfie

I had some wardrobe malfunctions this morning right before I left the house.  It’s a good thing it didn’t happen after I’d already left.  But I didn’t have time to change my outfit.  Nor did I want to.  I got this dress from a vendor at the Caribbean Days Festival at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver on the weekend.  The guy actually had a small fitting room, so I didn’t have to try on dresses over my clothes like I normally do at street festivals.  This was one of the three dresses I bought, and I think the nicest of them.  I really like the blues and the greens and the different lengths at the bottom of the dress.

But this morning, the left strap broke completely off.  I have no idea how it tore in two places, but somehow it did.  All I had at my disposal was a large safety pin and a small bobby pin.  I somehow managed to reattach the strap and secure it in place with these two items.  I’m resourceful, like Macgyver.  I obviously did a bad job of it, because you can still see the bobby pin and the safety pin.  But I mean it’s just for now, so that I could wear the dress today.  Eventually I will have to attempt to sew the strap back on.  Or get someone else with better sewing skills to do it for me.

For now, you can’t tell anything is wrong because I’ve covered it with my green Jacob cardigan.  I got one of my bracelets at Sears and the other one at Suzy Shier.  My green ring is from Greek Day on Broadway and my blue ring is from the Blim Market Festival on Granville.  My necklace is from Payless and my earrings are from Greek Day.  My hair is definitely becoming less and less straight, but I’d like to think it still looks good.  I tried to touch up my nails again so that they can look good while matching my outfit.  I’m wearing makeup because it’s my birthday week and I can.

Seventy-fifth day of work selfie

In keeping with the colourful dress theme, I decided to wear one of the dresses I bought at Italian Day on Commercial Drive a few weeks ago.  I paired it with my blue cardigan from Ross Dress For Less in the States.  My blue flower necklace is from UBC and my blue flip flop earrings are from Claire’s.  I got my blue bracelet at Suzy Shier and I got my green ring at Greek Day on Broadway a couple weeks ago.  I figured I would wear my short dresses while it’s still hot, since we’re expecting rain this weekend.  Finally.  But I’ll probably just continue to wear my short dresses even when it rains and the temperatures drop.  Because I can.

I thought I would wear something red in my outfit today since tomorrow is Canada Day.  I don’t know if you can tell but if you look closely you can see that my earrings are little Canada flags.  I found them at Claire’s and thought they were cute.  My red top is from Suzy Shier from several years ago.  I just bought this skirt at Old Navy over the weekend.  I think it may actually be the only skirt I have that fits me right now.  Wearing dresses is so much easier.  Less pieces of clothing to put together.  My outfit doesn’t even really match right now but oh well.  I was trying to find a sweater this morning and my mom looked outside and was like “Does it look like you need a sweater?”.  But I explained that I like to wear one in the office because the temperature is good inside the building.  I just grabbed this black Bryan’s cardigan before I left the house.

I unfortunately did not get a matching Canada flag necklace to go with my earrings, so I wore this key and rose Claire’s necklace instead.  My bracelet is from Dollarama and my purple ring is from Boca Raton Designs at Greek Day.  Yes, I’m still wearing it even though it’s too tight.  I tried contacting the vendor, because I have his business card but I haven’t received a response.  I don’t expect him to take it back, but it would be nice if he could let me exchange the second ring I bought, which seems to be even tighter than this one.  Also I got my eyebrows done last week if anyone cares.  Can you even tell or should I not have bothered?

Sixty-seventh day of work selfie

I know it’s hot as hell today, but I didn’t feel like shaving so I’m wearing pants.  Besides, I said I didn’t want to let the weather dictate my choice of clothing.  If I’d read the news before I left the house this morning, I probably would’ve worn something rainbow coloured to celebrate marriage equality in the States.  I got this top at a department store called Red Apple in Revelstoke.  I went there with my family a couple years ago because my dad had a reunion with some of his high school buddies.  I don’t think I could ever live in a small town.  Shopping wise, I was like “This is it?”.  Red Apple is kind of like a Winners or a Walmart, but smaller with not as much stuff.  But I managed to pick up few nice things there, this top included.  My mint green cardigan is from Jacob and my black pants are from Winners.  My Swarovski necklace was a Christmas gift from my cousins.  My bracelet is from Sears and my ring is from UBC.  These earrings are new.  I got them at Payless, along with some other BOGO jewellery over the weekend.  I guess maybe I’ll shave tomorrow and start wearing dresses again.  Maybe.

I’m not dressed very summery today.  But screw the weather, I’ll wear what I want.  Besides, temperatures are supposed to soar this weekend, so I’ll save the summery dresses for that.  I got this top at an Orb warehouse sale.  The red sweater is from Sears and the pants are from Winners.  My Nintendo heart necklace is from Fan Expo Vancouver, my bracelet is from Dollarama, and my ring is from UBC.  My earrings are new, I got them from a vendor at Car Free Day on Main Street on Sunday.  The same vendor I got the blue earrings from, who called me back to his booth to offer me a free third pair of earrings if I bought the first two.  I touched up my nail polish with a clear coat of polish.  Do they look shinier now?  I realized I should have painted them red since Canada Day is coming up next week.  I don’t want to remove the polish and repaint them since they actually look decent.  But it’s okay, I have plenty of red jewellery and clothing to make up for it.

Another blue dress from a street festival.  I got this one at Italian Day on Commercial Drive a couple weekends ago, along with the green dress that I wore last week.  The styles are similar, but different enough that I was fine with getting both.  I really like this colour blue and the designs that are on this dress.  It would’ve matched really well with the sweater I wore yesterday, but I didn’t want to wear the same sweater two days in a row if I could help it.  Instead, I paired it with this brown cardigan that I got from Bryan’s at Lansdowne Centre, since there is also brown in the dress.  My necklace is from Her Story Lockets and I got it at the PNE last year.  I actually ran into the girl who runs that business during Car Free Day on Denman Street and she remembered me because I was such a loyal customer.  My earrings are new, I got them at Car Free Day on Main Street on Sunday.   My ring is from UBC and my bracelet is from Sears.  And my nails are still looking good because I touched the up a little bit.  I may end up wearing even more blue outfits this week, because it’s my favourite colour, but also because I want my clothes to match my nails.  I guess purple would work too because they’re kind of purplish.  Or you know, I’ll just wear a different colour entirely.  Because really, who cares?

Sixty-third day of work selfie

I got this beautiful blue dress at Car Free Day on Denman Street on Saturday.  I bought three dresses from this one booth.  Unlike at Italian Day, where I just guessed about the fit, I totally tried these dresses on first, right there on the street, over my clothes, and had my friend there to help me decide if they looked okay.   And they did.  They had this dress in other colours too, but of course I had to get it in my favourite blue.  I love the design in the middle too.  And it matches perfectly with my blue Forever 21 sweater.

And I just happened to buy some new blue jewellery over the weekend as well.  I got this necklace at Payless in Lansdowne Centre after leaving Car Free Day on Denman on Saturday.  They have a BOGO sale on right now, so I got some other jewellery as well.  My shoe obsession is a thing of the past, or at least on hold for the moment, but has now been replaced in full force with a dress and jewellery obsession instead.  But I like that I can count on Payless for both my shoe needs and my jewellery needs as well.  I got these earrings at Car Free Day on Main Street Yesterday.  Yes, there were actually two days of Car Free Days this weekend.  I almost walked away from the booth, because I had already bought a lot of jewellery and these earrings were more than I wanted to pay.  But the man at the booth stopped me and said he would throw in a third pair of earrings for free if I bought the two pairs that I was considering.  So I was like yeah, okay.  And I’m glad I did, because they match really well.

Also, check out my nails.  Not only do they match my outfit, but they’re actually decently painted.  I’m totally improving my skills.  I decided to wear some of my old jewellery as well, with my Suzy Shier bracelet and my UBC ring.  I think the old Indian man who sold me the earrings is actually the same one who sold me the ring at UBC.  And the woman I bought the dress from was selling scarves at UBC in the past as well, and I totally bought a lot of stuff from her then too.  I guess avoiding the new student union building is doing absolutely nothing to help curb my spending.  It’s like wherever I go, these people will find me.  Or rather, I will find them.  But at least I know they’ll always be around to satisfy my fashion needs.
