Ninetieth day of work selfie

I’m happy to report that there have been no wardrobe malfunctions today.  Yet.  Perhaps I can make it through the whole day without incident.  I got this purple dress at the Fiji Day festival at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby a few weeks ago.  It was at this point that my friend yelled at me for buying too many dresses.  She later apologized and said she only yelled because she was hungry.  But she’s right, I do have a lot of summer dresses now.  But that’s pretty much all I wear right now.  Most people have several pairs of jeans and several pairs of shorts.  I don’t.  I have my dresses.

I got this white sweater at Old Navy at Richmond Centre.  I don’t wear white that often.  I never really thought it looked that good on me, and it also tends to get dirty rather quickly.  I got my necklace at the Blim Market festival downtown a few weeks ago.  Wait, I lied when I said there had been no malfunctions today.  As I was walking down the hall earlier, I kicked something on the floor.  It was the pendant of my necklace that had somehow fallen off.  Luckily, I was able to put it back on the chain.  I may need to get some pliers to secure it and ensure it doesn’t fall off again.

I got my earrings at Claire’s and my iPhone case at Aldo, both downtown.   I got my bracelet at Carnaval del Sol at Pacific Concord Place a few weeks ago.  I don’t have any purple bracelets so I decided to go with white.  My ring is from Boca Raton Designs at Greek Day.  My nail polish is chipping at an alarming rate.  I should’ve put on a top coat sooner.  Does my hair look dirty to you?  That’s because it is.  And I like it that way.

My sister has a blog

Since it’s my sister’s birthday, I thought I would post a link to her blog that she started earlier this year.  Maybe you’ll like it better than mine.  She’s a great writer and a great artist and very creative.  And I’m not just saying that because she’s my sister.

Here is this link to her blog:

Twenty-second day of work selfie

I got this floral pattered dress from Costa Blanca, when we still had one at Richmond Centre.  I used to only wear it for special occasions, like Easter Mass, or my brother’s high school graduation, but it’s casual enough for everyday wear.  It’s one of those dresses where it’s like slightly too short to wear without leggings.  I had become so used to wearing darker colours in previous jobs and I like being able to wear something colourful.  I got this purple sweater from Urban Behavior at Metrotown.  I like how my blue flower necklace kind of blends into a lot of my outfits.  The purple scarf is from Suzy Shier.  I’m not sure where exactly I got the earrings from.  But I like them and I tend to wear a lot of small, light, dangly earrings.  I think they were either from this random place in the States that sells hair products, or from a kiosk at Lansdowne.  Or from somewhere else entirely.  All that matters is they look good and complement many of my outfits.

I think Winston from New Girl might be my spirit animal

After watching the season finale of New Gir this week, I couldn’t help but feel like I could totally relate to Winston.  I know everyone in the cast has their moments, but Winston is definitely my favourite.  In most sitcoms, where there’s a group of friends, there’s usually one who’s perpetually single.  I pretty almost always relate to that character.  The rest of the New Girl cast is awkward in their own way, but Winston’s style of awkwardness definitely resonates with me, especially in this episode.  I mean forget about Schmidt and Cece, Jess and Nick, or Coach and May.  The best relationship on the show is hands down, Winston and his cat, Furguson.

Winston’s love for his cat is even funnier when you consider the fact that he ended up taking the cat from his ex-girlfriend, Daisy, after they broke up.  More importantly, the fact that he considered killing the cat when he found out she was cheating on him.  And now that cat is the most important part of his life.  The moment when I was like “Oh my God that’s totally something I would do!” was when Winston says that he takes weekly selfies with his cat.  That’s so me, or at least it would be if I had a cat.  I already take daily selfies at work, and I can see myself maybe getting a cat sometime in the future.  So the weekly cat selfie thing is pretty much inevitable.

Another part of this episode that I could relate to, is when Coach said that Winston always hits the info button on the remote by mistake, and Winston informs him that it’s not by mistake, and that he wants to know more about the cast and crew.  That’s definitely me.  Whenever I watch TV with my family, my mom always asks me why I need to see the info every time.  When you truly love TV, you care more about just sitting and watching the show.  If you’re going to invest the time, you want to know more about it first.

And finally, I loved it when Jess and Nick both went back to the garbage to see if their sex mug (the mug they used to leave out when they were together and one of them wanted sex) was still in there, only to discover it gone.  I thought it was hilarious that Winston took it because it was a perfectly good mug and he let his cat use it to drink water from.  I would totally want to be resourceful like that and not wasteful.  And though I’m not overly emotional, I do like keeping things for sentimental value, as does Winston, when he tries to convince Coach not to just get rid of things when he moves.

So yeah.  Winston is the best.  Even though I’ve never had a pet, I think I want to get a cat, just so I can take weekly cat selfies.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 16,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 4 Film Festivals

Daylight Savings

So we got an extra hour last night. But right now I feel as though I’ve lost an hour. Or several hours actually. Does anyone else feel the same way? I can’t be the only one. I’m very grateful for the extra hour. But I could really use an extra day. If only that were possible.

Free birthday meal at Pajo’s

On my birthday, I knew I wanted to get a free meal for dinner.  Some deals allow you to get your free meal one week before or one week after your birthday, while others only allow you to get it on the actual day.  It only made sense to go for one that would only be valid on the day of my birthday.  I had two choices.  Denny’s or Pajo’s.  I had gotten my free birthday meal at Denny’s last year, so I decided to opt for Pajo’s this time.  I wanted to go with my family, and I figured they’d be happier with fish and chips.  I suppose I could have attempted to do both, but I feel that would have been overkill.

My Pajo’s birthday coupon

In order to get your free birthday meal at Pajo’s, just go to their website and click on “Free Birthday Meal” under the heading “About”.  This will bring you to a form you need to fill out with your name, email address, and birthday.  Then you’ll receive a link to the coupon in your email.  Just print it out, fill it in with your name, and take it to Pajo’s with your picture ID on the day of your birthday.  It’s good for a small fish and chips and a drink, or a burger with fries and a drink.

Dinner at Pajo’s with my family

There are two Pajo’s locations in Richmond, one at Steveston on the wharf, and one at Garry Point Park.  We figured the wharf might be busier, so we went to Garry Point.  It was a nice day outside and we were able to find a picnic table to sit at.  I had my coupon printed and filled out and ready to go.  Halibut is more expensive than cod or salmon, so naturally I chose that option since it was free.  But I had a bit of salmon too that my family had left over.  Because I can always eat.  The portions at Pajo’s are pretty big.  You get a lot of fries in your basket.

My free birthday fish and chips

I don’t have fish and chips that often, so I’m glad I decided to go there.  There are two other Pajo’s locations at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody and Gates Park in Port Coquitlam.  I’m lucky that my birthday is in the summer, because their summer hours are 11am-8pm, whereas in the spring and fall they’re only open until 7pm, and only on certain days of the week.  This gave me ample time to get there and redeem my coupon after work.  Unfortunately, since they operate outdoors, Pajo’s is closed during the winter.  So you if you have a winter birthday, I guess you’re out of luck.  I wonder if Pajo’s offers any deal for those who miss out by being born at the wrong time.  Maybe it’s worth checking?  But this is just one of the reasons why summer birthdays rock.
